Sombres Forêts is a one man band from the icy plains of Canada formed by Annatar. Much like his fellow counterpart Sorcier des Glaces, thematic structure of each song on this album revolves around ice, snow, darkness and forest so it didn't surprise me at all if someone finds the latter proliferate on a lot of Canadian black metal bands. While Royaume de Glace has substantial clean production, its inexplicable aura of tranquility would send shivers down your spine and cold to the core; similar to its malevolence contemporary Frozen Shadows excellent debut in 1998. Not so many people know about Sombres Forêts therefore if you happen to like this band, try to stay updated with his future releases. Who knows he just might produce another gem that could outperform every other ricey metal record out there.
