Abhorrence - (2000) Evoking the Abomination [.flac]

Hailing from São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, Brazil's own death metal superpower Abhorrence have more than just speed and brutality to offer. They were first created three years away from the new millennium, with Ascension and Triumph in Blasphemy already gaining significant attention among underground metalheads and labels alike. Upon entering the year 2000, Abhorrence had prepared their own mix of biological agent in a form of Evoking the Abomination; a weapon that shared similar traits like their fellow countrymen Krisiun. The first pressing of this record was released through Evil Vengeance Records (Cartridge Number: EVRCD1) whereas it was also licensed to Listenable Records for State side release in the following year (Cartridge Number: POSH 026). Both pressings had different layout from each other. The first issue was pressed on clear disc adorned with two inverted crucifixes and the back cover did not have a picture of band members. For US release, the band logo was printed on a black disc and it featured photo of band member at the back of the tray card. As a side note, Rangel Arroyo would later be hired as session axeman for Impiety on Terroreign (Apocalyptic Armageddon Command) circa 2008 - 2009.

Niden Div. 187 - (2004) Impergium / Towards Judgment [.flac]

The name sure is alien to some but to most old school metallers who have been feasting upon the flesh of extremity be it black or death metal, Niden Div. 187 used to be one of the most brutal bands of the former genre. Apparently, the number 187 refers to the American term for murder. Impergium was first issued in 1997 through Necropolis Record. The music boasted some of the most unrelenting assault in the history of black metal ever. Their short - lived existence was overshadowed by successes from countless other bands which had probably caused Niden Div. 187 and their cult releases to stay underground, and obscure. Now, after several years of searching, I finally stumbled upon this kind Malaysian guy who happened to own this compilation (yes, this release includes Towards Judgement EP which was the band's debut material back in 1996). I bargained with him, offering a good price for this cult masterpiece. Upon arrival, I found out that the compact disc was still in mint condition, with booklet and tray card nicely intact. Only the jewel case needed replacement. Other than that, everything was super. Now, since I am a generous person when it comes to sharing my personal collection of bands and music, I'll give you this opportunity to grab Impergium / Towards Judgement to add to your library. Poseurs be warned; you are not true enough to listen to this kind of evil shit! (Damn! My printer cum scanner has been decommissioned so I can't provide you with quality album scans. Sorry folks!)

Black Witchery - (2010) Inferno of Sacred Destruction [.flac]

The entity was first born in 1991 as Irreverent. However, the moniker only managed to survive until 1996. At the same time this creature saw its demise, it was resuscitated in a form of Witchery. The beast collectively changed its name to Black Witchery and as such has remained as it is today. So far the band have released a total of 11 materials; four splits, two live DVDs, three albums, an EP and one demo. As of 2010, they have released Inferno of Sacred Destruction which is reminiscent of Blasphemy early works. The version in my possession has 10 tracks as opposed to 8 and it contains 2 intros. It also comes with a bonus DVD. Cartridge Number: HELLS 061 / 2011

Track List:

Paysage d' Hiver - (1998) Schattengang [.flac]

Switzerland was one of the countries in Europe that helped to pave a path for extreme metal movement during the early 80s. Beginning with Hellhammer who later evolved into the ever influential Celtic Frost, metal got so extreme over the years with new bands either trying to replicate or redefine the sound of what once was. With black metal on the rise, the plague spread throughout the European continent. The epidemic soon began to sweep the entire world. One of the bands that had been infected with the virus was Paysage d' Hiver; a solo black metal / ambient project of Wintherr who would also create another side project by the name Darkspace. The version that I have here is the 2006 A5 digibook reissue with only three songs, whereas the original tape has four tracks altogether thus bringing the total duration close to 56 minutes. The fourth track has been omitted from the CD reissue because according to Kunsthall Productions, the song does not fit into the overall concept of Schattengang (meaning 'shade course') that its presence is merely to fill in the remaining space so the tape will not go to waste. This demo contains chilling atmosphere, a cold feeling that comes from the frozen plains of nothingness. Instrumentation is somewhat a cross between so-bad-it's-good and great in entirety. Well, what do you expect, black metal demo of this sort rarely has a polished production quality. That is where the spirit lies, the essence that makes this release a noteworthy symbol of Wintherr creativity as a musician and artist.

Hypocrisy - (1996) Abducted [.flac]

While death metal was burgeoning in the States, a visionary Swede embarked on his solo journey to discover what was hot among the Americans during the early 90s. This voyage proved to be fruitful as he would return to his homeland, establishing the now infamous entity known to many as none other than Hypocrisy. Brought to life by the sole survivor of death metal carnage in the US who by now owns the ever notorious Abyss Studio in Sweden, Peter Tägtgren soon became a prolific multi - instrumentalist and record producer, working with numerous extreme metal bands that needed a helping hand in his studio. Abducted was the band's fourth album which marked Hypocrisy's transition into leaning towards melodic death metal as opposed to their stripped down traditional sound. An alternate version of Roswell 47 appeared on Nuclear Blast compilation Death is Just the Beginning IV. They have now abandoned the Satanic fervor in favor of X-Files friendly topics such as the extra terrestrial, aliens, science fiction and human conflict. This album simply slays with its unparalleled ferocity and creative manipulation of otherworldly melody. Old fans would know this beforehand but for newcomers (or poseurs as some preferred to call it), this is one of their essential albums in your collection. Cartridge Number: NB-133-2/27361 61332 (First pressing)

Samael - (1994) Ceremony of Opposites [.flac]

This is personally my favorite black metal album from the mid 90s. Back in the days, my brother and I would rave over how great this album was that we could not just listen to it in one sit without banging our heads and doing air guitar! The instrumentation is perfectly aligned and each of them has stolen the spotlight to shine right down on every single note. 'Black Trip' is just a great way of opening Ceremony of Opposites without sacrificing too much speed. Many a fan describes pre-electronic age Samael as a unique example of old school black metal. They tip the scale of balance with their amalgamation of aggression and harmony; something that is somewhat untypical during that time where a lot more other bands produced cult releases. This album stands between the band's crude potions (Worship Him and Blood Ritual) and their subsequent electronic outputs in the years to follow. Tracks like 'Celebration of the Fourth', 'Son of Earth', 'Till We Meet Again' and the ever reverberating anthem of Samael from this album 'Baphomet's Throne' are seemingly timeless works of art pieced together. The other songs are just as excellent as the aforementioned titles. What I have in my possession is the first pressing version released through Century Media. A highly sought after collector's item, I am here to convince you lot that Ceremony of Opposites is an album worthy of listen and praise! Be hailed!

Track List:

1. Black Trip 3:19
2. Celebration of the Fourth 2:53
3. Son of Earth 3:58

Brutality - (1993) Screams of Anguish [24 bit Remaster .flac]

Back in the early 90s, death metal was thriving healthily especially in the States. One of the names was Brutality, a band that was notable for utilising mid paced blast beats and churning, crunchy riffs. Now, Screams of Anguish takes the highlight of this blog 19 years after this album was first released in 1993. Infernal Execrator - (2008) Antichrist Execration [.flac]

With Antichristo Xul (of Istidraj and Balberith fame) as ritual bassbaptistor, Christslaughter on forni - sado - cation goatbattery and Lord Ashir (also from Istidraj) handling both 6 flame - stringed necroharp and imperial goatvomit, Infernal Execrator are a band that one should seriously check out. This EP of theirs is the first to materialise, featuring 5 original tracks and a merciless cover of Impiety's Sodomythical Frostgoats. What can be said about this excellent piece of art is that the music has so much to offer than just mundane, half - an - hour - long blastfest. Tremolo picking is utilised with absolute precision, evoking an overall eerie reverberation from the very depths of Hell itself. No senseless screams, no fillers and no useless intros; Infernal Execrator executed their most extreme embodiment of destruction of all things holy and religious. While they managed to retain originality in terms of songwriting, one may as be able to hear, among others, Vargsang, Angelcorpse, Satanic Warmaster (this concerns the melody), and Inquisitors of Satan era Deathspell Omega to some extent. There is no doubt that this band is a next big thing, a strong reminder that Singapore made great extreme metal bands from the very beginning!

Track List:

1. Massacre of the Evangelists
2. Antichrist Execration 4:49
3. Armageddon Bestial Battle 3:19
4. Final Blasphemy (Ultimate Irreverent) 3:51
