Creed - (2000) With Arms Wide Open [Single]

 Maxi Single Cover

Single Compact Disc

No. This is of course nothing close to metal but a distant cousin between the two. A friend of my brother left this CD lying around our house about ten years ago. Yes. I can't even begin to recall who actually owns this Maxi. It's not something that worth collecting but somehow my gut instinct tells me that this piece of classic may as well worth sharing for average rockers out there. Creed's career is rather short - lived but not before achieving international sales close to 35 million; something even the remotest of musicians would dream of. Being a casual fan of this band, their earlier releases come out quite decent and solid with tracks that are memorably meaningful. Their sophomore effort proves to be groundbreaking for post - grunge genre; Human Clay has gone to spawn a total of four singles, all of which have earned the highest place in worldwide charts (I'm speaking from global point of view as opposed to 'kvlt' spectrum). My personal favorite, among others is Higher. A relatively quasi ballad with grunge - driven tendency that has one singing to its harmonious melodies. On this Maxi edition, I have found out that the track order significantly differs from what has been listed in the database. Nevertheless, the original version of With Arms Wide Open is simply the best, The other two versions, well, at least they got decent ideas to toy with. However, the last track is replaced with Wash Away Those Years and One is somehow omitted from this release. The original track list is as follow:

Original track listing:

1. With Arms Wide Open (New Version)
2. Wash Away Those Years
3. One
4. With Arms Wide Open (Strings Version)
5. With Arms Wide Open (Multimedia Video Track)

Now what I have here is slightly different. Could this release have been specified for Asian edition? I don't know. All in all, the CD is still in good condition with minor scratches, Maxi case still intact and of course playable. Or else how do you think I managed to rip this CD huh? Enjoy peeps!

Maxi Single Track List:

1. With Arms Wide Open [New Version] 3:45
2. With Arms Wide Open [Album Version] 4:27
3. With Arms Wide Open [Strings Version] 3:57
4. Wash Away the Years 6:04

Ormentzera - (2010) Betray [Single]

Dark Verministry are now a history. Its later form of rebirth 'Aglaophotis' is yet to produce any material to prove the moniker's worthy of existence. With members splintering between themselves, the future of Aglaophotis remains uncertain. Ail, former lead axeman of Dark Verministry is now reported to have 'retired' from everything metal. Clearly, his post - Verministry era has brought significant changes to how he sees things and how these things would later be an integral part to his life. Although some have argued over the impossibility of calling it quits from metal, Ail will say otherwise. Arif will also agree to this, with acquaintances citing him as slowly moving away from what once was his first and foremost forte in life. He begins to sell off his metal cassettes and paraphernalia to associates. Buie on the other hand is still struggling along the line of being the most hated person in Borneo. Believe it or not, this sad fact emerges not only from within this part of the country but people seem to have vehement enmity against him which has reached as far as Miri. His best comrade Han tends to stay away from getting caught up in the maelstrom of animosity perpetrated by hatred of men. Still, Han himself was once guilty of deserting his childhood colleague Ail when he chose metal over their friendship. This highly brisant situation has led people to hold grudge against the duo. Priority target is still focused on Buie while Han acts as ambassador who will try to the best of his ability to rectify any sticky situation between his trouble - ridden friend and people he comes in contact with.

Earlier on this blog, there is a mention of Ormentzera. This project features the former bassist of Dark Verministry by the name Arif, who by now is busy pursuing his university degree in science. During one fateful meeting, Arif has approached Han to send a new single that they have recently recorded called 'Betray'. The details of the recording are still obscure with much of the information has been withheld by Arif. According to Han, Arif takes over the vocal slot while playing bass. It is said that he ate some chocolate to achieve the desired vocal style. Going down to song analysis, Han personally feels that the song is given to him with some clandestine purpose. He believes by giving the song to Han, Arif may as well have partially exacted revenge unto Aglaophotis who as of date are still struggling to put out a solid record. Arif may also act on Ail's behalf, who Han believes the song serves as a huge slap in the face for what they did in the past to them (Arif and Ail). However, Han later dismisses this as nothing more than unconfirmed suspicion since he personally believes that whatever it was that happened between the four of them is now over and done with.

The song itself is a decent piece of melodic black metal with flowing solos and Senjakala - esque riffing. The guitars sound too asphyxiated to even be highlighted here. However, Ormentzera compensated this particular drawback with clear projection of drums and lead solos. At one time it can get quite annoying to hear the hi - hat; it's way too much for what this song actually is as if one is listening to a techno slab at auto show. Arif vocals are worthy of praise though. It's amazing that he can pull off a decent performance on this single. Surely he has quite a potential to become the next Draconaeon. As a side note, the latter is due to release their debut full length In Silence Mournful on a date yet to be announced. Again, the lyric to this song is something for Aglaophotis to think about, sit back and contemplate. The title itself says it all. What is this? Some kind of insinuation? It better be.

Overall a decent track with some enjoyable moments. This acts as a wake up call for Aglaophotis who is far left behind on every aspect. However, the brainchild behind said entity Han will never say die. In times to come, they too will release quite a handful of materials. Han has already envisioned the kind of music that Aglaophotis are set to deliver. With Ormentzera promulgating themselves as being successful in the forefront, there is nothing that their arch nemesis cannot do in the future.

Impiety - (2011) Advent of... [EP]

This is pure evil in its most sophisticated form. Here we have a couple of elements brought together in a form of mini CD with full title 'Advent of the Nuclear Baphomet'. Each song follows the style previously heard on Worshippers of the Seventh Tyranny so I'd say this EP is more like a B-side of the latter. Perhaps these songs could have made it onto said album but since Impiety decided to play progressive at length never before witnessed in their career, they might as well pressed another CD. Luckily, this little gem was made available through a distro at Eastern Voice Production for a price of RM50. Not bad though. At least I'm supporting the band and bought their release with my hard earn bucks!

Track list:

1. Advent of the Nuclear Baphomet 6:39
2. Ave Satanas 6:22
3. Blood Ritual Defamation 8:11

Total time: 21:12

Trelldom - (1994) Disappearing of the Burning Moon [Demo]

This is one of the most unknown and underrated black metal demos from Norway. Featuring a now - vilified figure in the history of Norwegian black metal by the name Gaahl, the band found themselves in a form of Trelldom. Nobody even pays so much attention to this great band since a lot of people know Gaahl from his stint later in Gorgoroth. The whole review can be read here.

Impiety - (1996) Asateerul Awaleen

The first full length debut from Singapore's most prolific anti - religious - goat - barbaric entity mighty Impiety. After releasing at least three demos (one which existence remained hazy to this day) and one EP, Shyaithan and his fellow barbarians moved forward to record their debut Asateerul Awaleen. The Arabic title has left many to speculate that it actually refers to pre - Islamic tales, a reference to jahiliyah era (the age of sheer ignorance according to the history of Arab) which can also be found from a passage in Holy Quran. However, let not the title fool you; this album does not praise religion but a complete decimation of the latter and total praise to horned Master of Eternal Fire. Being brave enough to adopt the most vilified pseudonym in the history of Southeast Asian black metal, Shyaithan (born Muhammad Khairul Ariffeen Deen) together with his team of sworn blasphemers managed to put out one of the best underground records to ever come out from this region. The riffs are completely amazing and ritualistic, evident of rich traditional touch that greatly differs from their contemporaries such as As Sahar and most Norwegian imitators. The studio trick may have done a good job at rendering Shyaithan's vocal totally demonic and possessed. He sounds a lot like the devil himself. The production is quite tinny and as such has made the guitar sounds akin to a bee buzzing around your head. Only this time it is far more crystal clear and vibrant. Luckily, the album allows sufficient room for Leprophiliac Rex to contribute his resonating bass lines and they actually stand out from start to finish. Another amazing aspect of this atheistically Satanic masterpiece is the drums played by Iblyss. He knows how to fill in the gaps with awesome cymbals work, accurate mid paced blast beats and even simplistic yet effective double bass attack as exemplified in Anal - Madonna and Divine Hutamahan Frostfuck (way for a title). Especially on the latter, he alternates between ride, crash and bell with unthinkable perfection. This adds even more wider spectrum of marksmanship for Impiety as a whole. Furthermore, the third track is known for its creative use of acoustic guitar strumming which is highly surprising yet enjoyable because it does fit with the song. A re-recorded version of Magick - Consecration Goatsodomy also made its appearance on this album among others. The only difference here is Shyaithan vocal in which he no longer employs throaty growls reminiscent of Beherit, Archgoat and Blasphemy. Instead, he eschew the aforementioned style and replaced it with a pair of lungs borrowed from Lucifer himself. No kidding.

Track list:

1. Intromancy: Dzuul Ar'Shil Jaheem 1:59
2. Anal - Madonna 6:36
3. Divine Hutamahan Frostfuck 6:48
4. Hymnvocation of Nazarethian Nunwhores 7:19
5. Magick - Consecration Goatsodomy 5:23
6. Ceremonial Necrochrist Redesecration 3:27
7. Bismishyaithan 6:13
8. Blasphemyth... The Seventh Goatspawn 1:36

Impiety - (2011) Worshippers of the Seventh Tyranny

 The majestic artwork featuring goatvomit

The digipack version of Worshippers of the Seventh Tyranny bearing Shyaithan's autograph.

Contains a 28 - page booklet with over 38 minutes of pure thunderous atrocity ever recorded by Impiety.

I really hate to be the person who couldn't get albums from my favorite bands. Impiety and this album being the one. Many a friend rushed to get their hands on this precious digipack with me stood watching in despair. At the time of its release, I was running low on funds since I already cashed in for their previous two albums. However, I still am hoping that this album will be reissued soon. Although it doesn't break new ground but according to Impiety themselves, this is something completely different from what they have done in the past and as such, listening to this album in one sit requires immense patience and determination. If you are the kind of person who dislikes elephant ass - epic track length then Worshippers of the Seventh Tyranny will immediately become your worst nightmare! On this digipack (sniff... sniff... why did you leave me?), the 38 minute 32 second majestic anti humankind assault is divided into VII parts altogether. Obviously this is to compensate for slow, near - doom pace that the band have to perform in order to save their stamina. Well, logically Impiety aren't up to play 38 minutes of constant blast beats and ungodly riff charge as can be heard on Terroreign (Apocalyptic Armageddon Command). If they do, then Impiety must be one of the craziest, most insane blackened deathrash metal band on this planet! There are a lot of elements being introduced into their song writing, with Shyaithan now paying new assassins to execute putrid holocaust of mankind, the solos are more distinctively melodic with more palette of colors on drums. Other than its out - of - proportion duration, Shyaithan also experimented with different vocal styles rather than constantly vomiting forth blaspheme that most fans are familiar with. The vocal as a whole is clear and intelligible enough that one doesn't really need to look up what he is actually singing. Elements of contemporary thrash riffing addled with black metal aesthetics quickly gained prominence on this epic offering. Fans might as well get hooked in their flesh with this album. The only thing that seems to be problematic for a lot of people is its ridiculous length. Again, patience is all you need to fully appreciate this uncompromisingly arrogant piece of art.

Impiety - (2002) Kaos Kommand 696 [Digipack Edition]

How many times have Impiety come out with strong releases over the years? The answer is each time they put out a record, it's going to be brutal and uncompromising as Goatfather Shyaithan refused to write songs that are melodic which can be a wankery at once. Boasting one of the most profound records ever released through Osmose Productions, Kaos Kommand 696 proved to be another landmark in the band's career two years into the millennium. With ultra blistering speed and Shyaithan's vocals greatly improving, this album is a must have for longtime fans. Newcomers be warned; you will not find anything close to now wimp out Cradle of Filth and its closest cousin from Norway Dimmu Borgir. No. Go look somewhere else if you're searching for the latter both. The style picks up where Skullfucking Armageddon left off with further refined song structure, solid riffing and more varied drumming. Seconds after you allow this record spinning in your stereo, you will be greeted with a picture of mass congregation praying in a church being mercilessly massacred by armies of Satanic militia using Fabrique Nationale M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. Bodies of Christian believers lying strewn and bloodied, riddled with bullet holes are just the kind of images that immediately come to mind when listening to Christfuckingchrist. The band would later remain adhere to this style; unrelenting mixtures of black, death and thrash metal all at once. Session members come and go but only the Goatfather Shyaithan himself stays throughout the entire course of mighty Impiety abominable career. He went on to become one of the most successful in the forefront of blackened deathrash metal arena. This version comes with two bonus tracks.

Track list:

1. Christfuckingchrist 4:55
2. Apokalyptik Nuklear Battlebeasts 3:19
3. Wardaemonic Overkill 4:50
4. Atomic Wrath of Azzazzel 5:36

Impiety - (1999) Skullfucking Armageddon [Drakkar Reissue]

Impiety have a long history behind them. With the release of Skullfucking Armageddon, the band changed their style and aesthetic reminiscent of early Sarcófago as well as Canadian black war Blasphemy. These two bands have influenced Impiety on a larger scale and as such its presence can be felt on this album as well as their previous releases. It is thrash as it is black with a touch of death. Therefore, there is certainly multiple elements being mixed into this release. Somehow they are able to merge into one formidable force of warring blasphemy and occultic summoning of diabolical arts. These elements would later see another execution on Kaos Kommand 696. Among the stand out tracks are Ironflames of Hate, Diabolical Witching Aggression and of course the ever headbangable Torment in Fire. The latter brings Sacrifice to come into picture.

Track list:

1. Lords of Apokalypse 6:56
2. Nocturnized 4:52
3. Sodomythical Frostgoats 4:14

Get Busy

No, it's not Sean Paul! In fact, it refers to my busy schedule as university undergrad and blogger. Life.

Probably you won't see any new upload in a couple of days but I will try my best to add some old school favorite of mine. In the mean time, there is definitely one film nobody has ever seen before. It is scary as hell. The title is 'Dendam Perawan Bunting. This '90s film is directed by allahyarham Hussein Abu Hassan and details a story about this typical pretty girl in a village who was raped and subsequently she got pregnant, returned from beyond the grave to avenge her shameful demise in a much fearful form known in Malay as pontianak. Now this is where it comes on quite hazy; something happened to that poor girl in the film and I can't actually recall what it was. Somehow I am convinced that she was either murdered or committed suicide which eventually led to her returning from the dead to kill the men who raped and got her pregnant. As always, when there is a villain there is also a hero. Then again, I am not sure who is the hero but he certainly is a guy who left the village when the incident took place (when the lady was violated). Upon returning to his seemingly quiet and peaceful little remote village, he came face to face with a terrifying apparition capable of inflicting serious physical injuries to unsuspecting passers by. One particular scene that I vividly remember and still terrifies me to this day is when the girl's apparition (pontianak) was wandering outside a hut deep in the woods. Her nasty laughter and cackling just echoed through the forest. Interestingly enough, the film was shot and produced in the early '90s at times when CGI was still quite scarce in Malay films. It was and still is convincingly scary. I just don't quite remember how the film ended but it somehow had to do with the girl's spirit being returned to her proper resting place and her terror spree was put to an end once and for all.

There was also another film featuring Hussein Abu Hassan himself along with Malaysia's most well known comedian Mr. Os. Only this time he played a role of vengeful undead with an edge on martial arts. Yes. This one particular ghost was male and he put up quite a vicious fight with anyone who got in his way. Again, I can't quite remember what the plot was but it certainly has something to do with him learning black magic, got into trouble and then was later killed. As a result of his adherence to black arts prior to his death, his decaying body was possessed with evil spirit in which he broke out of his grave to seek revenge upon those who had killed him. He now terrorised the small village in which he died and was able to shapeshift into a python. Dressed in torn and tattered gray baju Melayu, this vengeful zombie sought to destroy anyone strong enough to face him. One of the scenes that immediately comes to mind is one showing him eating a bowl of worms at the behest of his master Satan. The only thing I find unsettling about this particular film is how I have completely forgotten its name. There is no information available on the internet and little do people mention about it at all. In this case, it makes it even more difficult to acquire a decent copy of both films (this and Dendam Perawan Bunting). Being an ardent fan of kvlt classic horror films, I have spent some time browsing through search engines, forums and torrents in search of these two most elusive movies ever from my childhood years. I could hardly find contemporary Malay horror films to be scary enough to make me on the edge of my sit. No. The special effects albeit technologically advanced is so blatantly overproduced and as a result, you get another cheap Hollywood or Oriental horror rip offs. The scare doesn't stay that long unlike in movies from the early 90s and late 80s where everything was realistically produced with little to no CGI intervention at all.

So if anyone knows about these two films or is in possession of said items, please feel free to leave comment on this blog. Let me know if I can contact you since I need to get decent copies of said masterpiece and reserved them for those who have long sought to watch the scariest shit of all time!

Seraphim - (2007) As for Now it Begins [Promo]

Seraphim old artwork

This is the second track (or first??) recorded by Seraphim back in 2006 and released a year later on November 12 2007. An epic grandeur of melody and mayhem, As for Now it Begins proved to be their most ambitious effort to date. Spanning nearly 11 minutes, the song opens up with decent yet memorable acoustic passages which became a trademark for any piece of music written by Malays in Southeast Asia. For those who are familiar with early non - wankering works of Cradle of Filth would readily acknowledge that Han's vocals were downright similar. However, there are a few things which separated them from myriads of imitators or wannabes at their backyard; Seraphim injected potent doses of solos unique to Malays which are alien to acts exported from across the globe. Although one might argue that some key elements are derivative, it remains imperative to note their unparalleled ingenuity. Something that is hard to come by these days. Another thing is, it seemingly epic proportion does not fall short of decent surprises and riffs that one can definitely headbang to. This is not art for art's sake. It goes way beyond that or perhaps deeper than anyone can begin to fathom. However, if you insist to disprove my claim, this song as for now begins to be absorbed within my system as we speak.

Seraphim - (2006) Seraphim [Promo Track]

The band first came into being in 2003 after Jai decided to quit himself from Ouija. Their initial inception consisted of Didie on bass, Amir (formerly of Senjakala) on drums, Die as vocalist with Sofian and Jai on guitars respectively. In 2005, Sofian left the band and he was replaced by Han who subsequently became Seraphim second vocalist. The reason being Han was able to do shrieking vocal while Die was exclusively a growler for the band. Hailing from Brunei Darussalam, at least two songs were successfully recorded by the band. They had also toured Singapore, playing their first ever live show away from home alongside much anticipated appearance of fellow war brothers Draconaeon. In 2008, Seraphim were the first band to be interviewed by two members of now defunct Dark Verministry. The band opposed commercialism and they were known to have vehement adherence to anonymity endemic to underground milieu. Playing melodic death metal with a touch reminiscent of mid - era Cradle of Filth and Swedish death metal sound, particularly that of Gothenburg bands, Seraphim were among few bands that could outdo most 'core' craps in their area.

The song being featured here is perhaps one of two known songs they have recorded back in 2006 although the studio works may have started way earlier than that. Nevertheless, it depicts Seraphim ability to conjure even remotely plausible niche of art within death metal chamber. Song structures are fairly standard yet unpredictable to some degrees. The latter is largely attributed to its capability to entice listeners, both seasoned and amateur in a very intricate way. It also indicates a certain level of sophistication concerning Seraphim song writing skills in which they opted to eschew most banal elements from getting too stagnant, repetitive and one - dimensional. Their effort shines the most and what they do seems to have the potential of becoming something more.

Seraphim are currently in the process of recording another handful of tracks at Victorious Rock Production studio. Details as of yet remained unknown.

Maria - (2005) Bisik Hati [Album Version Single]

This is perhaps somewhat different from what have long been posted on this blog. Yes. This blog is about everything music in its absolute rarity. Shown here is Maria (born Meria Aires). A very well known singer from Brunei Darussalam, she initially does not intend to make a career out of singing but has somehow able to top the poor music industry over here.

On to the music: The song starts off with syrupy acoustic intro which becomes the main driving force. Her vocals do not have much variation other than hitting quasi - high notes with full passion. Yet, they are as beautiful as the person herself. She has lungs specially designed for pop and soft rock which surprisingly worked very well on this track. It is this fact that sets her apart from other Gaga or Siti Nurhaliza wannabe whose English is all over the place. Again, nothing special. It's just the same thing we've heard a hundred thousand of times before. Nevertheless, the music is catchy with tunes that are easily memorable they stick to the back of your mind. The drums are something that superficial listeners may pass on, but they are strong and thoroughly projected although at times one can notice they are just random fills.Yes. Random is the word. They are good but seemed to clutter all over the place unnecessarily. Evident that of the song being constructed without proper song writing techniques. It follows the overall pattern of pop rock song which appeals to those who readily thrived on mainstream current, but may not mean anything for the crust - of - the - Earth dwellers. All in all an interesting listen and significantly memorable at that.

Holy Deity - (2008) A Dream of Torture [Promo Single]

Formed in 2006, Holy Deity combined elements of hardcore with non - chalant heaviness of extreme metal. With this being said, they were among a few growing bands from Brunei Darussalam to play in this subgenre. The only preview traceable to their origin is now available on this blog.

Sentenced to Burn - (2008) Queen of Her Subjects [Promo Single]

The band described their genre as a cross between hardcore and beatdown although the latter may as well be erroneous from truly representing the band's music. Most seasoned metallers would refer to their inclination as metalcore; now an abundant form of metal largely thriving among youth worldwide. Hailing from Brunei, Sentenced to Burn were formed in 2008 and had since been releasing a 4 - song EP in 2009, one of which will be made available on this blog.

Dark Verministry - (2008) Genesis of Evil [Demo]

Two school friends met with a guy through Friendster. Both of whom shared similar interest, envisioning to establish a metal band of their own. Whereas this guy had been playing as session guitarist in some local metal bands, including Sahujja'Achra.

It all started somewhere at the end of 2006 when Ail, the then guitarist of Abysmal Thoughts befriended a fellow who happened to study at the same night class that he went to; Arif. While they were in the toilet during a break, they started off discussing about Metallica in which Ail referred to Arif's wispy goatee as reminiscent of later James Hetfield. Intrigued by this remark, Arif began curiously asking Ail whether he knew about Metallica and metal in general. Much to his surprise, Arif found out that Ail had been a long time fan of Metallica and heavy metal music. After a delightful revelation, they further developed a friendship with Arif began introducing Ail to heavier, more extreme underground metal bands.

Later that night, Ail contacted his long time friend whom he knew to have been very passionate about extreme metal; Han. The latter was also responsible for introducing Ail and his small circle of associates to bands such as Napalm Death, Deicide, Darkthrone, Burzum, Samael and Sil Khannaz during their stint at secondary and religious school. Ail sent few text messages to Han, most of which inquired him whether or not Han knew about the bands being mentioned in those texts, to which he responded by saying some of them did sound familiar. They later met with each other at a restaurant, where Ail introduced Han to Arif after they ordered some pirated metal albums from Arif at a price of BND$3,00 each. Since then, they maintained good communication with Arif bringing them to jam a few songs at his place as well as other jamming studio.

Prior to the creation of Dark Verministry, Han and Ail had established their own band with no apparent direction they could focus on. The two were accompanied by Hadi and Hakim with Sam occasionally lending a helping hand on bass. Among the songs that they regularly jammed prior meeting with Arif were Guns 'n' Roses, Creed and some other well known commercial hard rock acts. Sam however tried pulling Han and the rest of his friends into liking emo music, to which Han initially gave a nod since he wanted to have some taste of said genre. However, Han soon developed vehement animosity toward emo when some of its local fans began associating emo with Gothic rock / metal. The reason being Gothic had nothing to do with emo at the first place and that suicide among emo - obsessed teenagers was completely irrelevant. Sometime later, Han, Ail, Hakim and Sam promulgated Abysmal Thoughts as their moniker. According to Han, he named the band after a line from Dimmu Borgir's song 'Behind the Curtains of Night - Phantasmagoria' which can be found in their 1999 album Spiritual Black Dimensions; "[R]esurged in torrents of abysmal thoughts". At one point, Han expressed his concern that the music they were playing did not really fit in with what he actually envisioned. They nevertheless continued on to jam using the name Abysmal Thoughts.

In the afternoon of 2007, Han was called in to perform for a mini talent show that took place at now partially defunct Jerudong Park. He was shocked to receive such a news since the band had not been informed of doing any live performance any where in their country, let alone at the aforementioned amusement park. Once there, Ail and the rest quickly packed up their gear and assembled the equipments for a sound check which consumed significant amount of time. They stood watching each band perform in the cafe in front of them. Upon learning the fact that majority of the bands who came to perform on that day were playing emo / screamo type of music, Ail, Hakim and Han began to feel nervous since no way they could outperform those bands' prowess given that they had only started to play music in just under a year. This was particularly true with Han feeling quite anxious; he realised that his drumming skills were terribly mediocre compared to what he saw at that time. They later gathered among themselves with a new thing in mind; they were there for anything but to perform. Sam hired two vocalists; an unknown male and his female colleague by the name Elle, without prior informing the rest of the band. They later acquainted with their newly hired live singer Elle. They asked her to memorise the lyrics to Don't Cry which was perhaps the only old school hard rock song to have ever been played during the show. When Abysmal Thoughts were called on to perform, they played the song smoothly. It was until Ail lead solo part that thing started to get awry; he tried to play the solos wholeheartedly but since his guitar was held too high above waist level, the cable suddenly got unplugged, leaving the rest of his friends feeling quite shaky. The audience however rounded some applause although the sincerity might as well be questionable. At the end of their performance, the band quickly dismissed themselves from the venue out of embarrassment. Later they learned that Abysmal Thoughts had been given the worst possible review by the event organiser, citing that some instruments as well as Elle vocal were no where near audible. Distraught, the band quietly settled to jam on their own with no possibility of playing any more live shows in the future.

Initially Han wanted to create his own black metal band. This was what brought him to know Buie (alternate spelling Boy / Boi) from Tutong. The two first got acquainted through Friendster which by now had been long abandoned by the duo. Knowing that Buie was able to play rhythm guitar, Han asked Ail whether they could recruit him into Abysmal Thoughts, to which both agreed with a condition they first had to see each other in person. In essence, Han was more intrigued with bands Buie was listening to, with majority of those being black / death metal genres. With wealth exchange of information on bands and whatnot, the three started to jam heavier songs. Han attempted to further refine his drumming by trying out faster blast beats although his limited stamina inhibited him from fully mastering the technique. Han and Buie would later be introduced to Arif. Their meeting proved to be critical in later development of Dark Verministry as well as its subsequent demise during the latter half of their formation. They exchanged stories, mp3, DVDs; basically anything metal related would be their first and foremost cup of tea upon meeting each other. When Han felt that the name Abysmal Thoughts was no longer relevant (he also stated that the name would bring about disgraceful memory), they spent some time searching for better name that would reflect their overall mentality. Throughout this time, Han finally settled with Verministry; a name he thought as insinuation to some of Brunei wealthy ministries whom he believed were corrupt. Combined from 'vermin' and 'ministry', the name was initially seen as politically charged although Han and Buie later dismissed this as nothing more than oxymoron attempt to create something "insightful".

According to Buie, Aslan of NoirAtasya allegedly suggested the prefix 'Dark' be added on Verministry. Han personally asked Aslan whether or not this claim was true, to which Aslan denied involvement in creating said prefix. The band were quite ambitious though; they conducted interviews with some of underground's key figures such as Izzard, Adukasuria and members of Seraphim to name a few. The latter which both Han and Buie voted as the best interview they had ever done, citing that each of them had endless sense of humor while at the same time maintaining their unparalleled opinions that were honest and just. Footage of these interviews would then be compiled, edited and pressed on consumer grade DVD-R with the title Metalitary 2008. The DVD was joint production between Dark Verministry, who by now had lost one of its longest running members Ail due to creative differences with Han, Misfits Entertainment House with Boy of Victorious Rock Production lending his editing skills who was also featured as himself in the interview. Prior to Ail calling it quits from Dark Verministry, the trio, Han, Aerif and Ail did record a four - track demo, all of which were instrumental. The three were heavily influenced by Draconaeon and thus aimed to follow in the footstep of their fellow countrymen. Although the band felt quite hesitant to consider Genesis of Evil as their official demo, nevertheless they enamored to the idea that Dark Verministry had indeed recorded something.

On the afternoon of July 24 2008, Han and Ail went to jam at Arif's place, first rehearsing their favorite songs such as For Whom the Bell Tolls, Rivers of Blood, Rivers of Sorrow, A Kingdom Fallen among others before actually jamming their own songs which were largely created by Ail and Arif. The session was considered a crash course by the band; the were mostly unprepared and available instruments were meager both in terms of quality and performance. They somehow managed to perform three songs with the final being a keyboard driven melody that was done out of the blue by Ail. The band reacted differently to the songs that they had recorded through a consumer handheld camera, with audio extracted and fine - tuned by Han. According to Han, the raw, unedited stocks of the audio were extremely horrible that he had to spend the whole day trying to re-equalised each track in order to make each instrument more reasonably audible. Three songs showcased Ail's prowess as lead guitarist (who also filled in rhythm slot since Buie was unable to turn up), boasting melodic solos, rattling tempo changes and uneven song structure that were derivative from basic 4/4 signature. At least on one track, Arif did not fill his role as bassist since he was handling the camera. Han on the other hand was faced with greater difficulties; his naturally sweaty palms made it unreliable to acquire strong grip on his drum sticks and as a result, one of them was sent flying through the air. Arif had to pick up the stick and handed it over to Han, resuming their jam session. Lack of proper cymbals variety also contributed to monotony of Han drum patterns as he was only using a single pedal. Since Arif realised that their session was being recorded onto a camera, he fully utilised his bass playing skills especially those concerning improvised notes which for most part sounded way creative than what he used to play before. Nevertheless, the jam did not go without mistakes; there were times where Han would have difficult time catching up with Ail's abrupt tempo changes. This had contributed to Han playing out of tempo that plagued the first three songs on this demo. Given the fact that each of them did not know how to read music, they just played by ear. Most of them were untrained novice at that time. They had only but one thing; passion. Although sadly enough, the band soon disbanded due to growing personal issues among themselves, with Arif went on to form Ormentzera while Han and Buie moved forward as duo but not before changing their name again for one last time to Aglaophotis. Recently, rumor had it that Ail sold his Ibanez guitar along with amps and pedals through a friend for BND$850. Arif and Han remained on good terms while no contact had been established between Ail and Han. Everything went quiet for some time and Han had to finish his degree at a local university with Arif followed suit. The only person who remained consistent to this date was Han; he still holding on to the idea of creating a black metal band that as of now had yet to record any material due to restrictive schedule, lack of transportation and family commitment. This matter was addressed by Han and Buie when Aglaophotis were selected to appear in Emperor Zine 2010, issue number 6 starting on page 24.

Rust Sakaraz - (1996) Bloodwarhate [Demo]

Yet another death metal band from Brunei Darussalam. A relatively well known entity, Rust Sakaraz is first established back in 1995 at times where metal maintains its cult underground status. The band are fronted by Aslan who is widely believed to have been involved with a series of other side projects including The Mystikal East [sic] and Sahujja'Achra. Several others who come to assist him A.D on bass, Repertuar brandishing all guitars whereas Rasckal is hired as bass - assassin for numerous sessions.

The sound of this release allegedly harkens back to early work of Silent Death. Perhaps due to years of being kept in archive, the tape quality has degraded over time and this has somehow made the inferior sound even more gritty. 'The Death Incarnate' showcases acoustic driven intro backed by trembling bass which would later be recycled for 'Black Magic Velvet (Neurasthenia)'. As acoustic tranquility fades away, ear drilling guitars come forth to bring total destruction and cataclysm coupled with Aslan deathly vocals which make the second song as one of the best on this demo. It is no doubt that each man behind this project is truly talented. They know their music very well although there are moments where one can clearly aware of sloppy performance, most notably the drum fills. However, mistake is what made Bloodwarhate truly alive. It is raw and uncompromisingly promising unlike any other mainstream rock bands in Brunei who have their songs edited digitally in the studio just so they would sound great to braindead masses. Neither do Aslan and co. boast about where they did record this tape because they feel no need to do so. In all honesty, this is the type of music, sort of an art in its very primal form with embodiment of living souls housed into it. No one can dispute its originality and the creativity that each member has contributed is way out of question.

P/s: The ...Outro is strongly reminiscent of Peter Jackson 92' horror flick Braindead. In case anyone didn't notice.
