Hussein Abu Hassan - (1991) Kanta Serigala [YouTube Premier]

I couldn't find Dendam Perawan Bunting anywhere. To compensate for my throbbing heartache and gravely despair, I decided to buy this film on VCD instead. This is not downloadable since I only upload the film in parts to YouTube. Pretty much a so and so thriller flick with some nice memorable moments. Hope you enjoy watching it!

Part 1

The film features an ensemble cast, a lot of whom are already well known within Malaysian entertainment industry such as Didie Alias, Faizal Hussein, Kuswadinata and Rosyam Nor. It is directed by Hussein Abu Hassan who also makes a cameo appearance as the Assistant Superintendent. Perhaps I can safely say that Kanta Serigala is probably one of  the first modern crime / thriller movies that will soon be explored further by Malaysian film makers. While having some meaty substance to its story line, the dialogue is somewhat mediocre at best and features numerous repetitive lines as well as abrupt interjections. Nevertheless, it's a good watch for an old film.

Part 2

Simply, the premise follows Zarul a.k.a. Abang Aji (played by Faizal Hussein) who is mentally unstable but has a very soft spot for his little sister, Shakira (played by Melissa Saila). Shakira wanted to become a famous rock singer like her idol Dania (Didie Alias). This film uses a handful of flashback scenes to keep you informed of what causes Zarul to become a murderer. He is also shown to be fond of venomous snakes, particularly a cobra that he calls Awang.

Part 3

Don't want to reveal too much. You got to see for yourself. I can say that Zarul character is one that the audience can sympathise with; driven by the need to account those responsible for Shakira's ultimate demise where justice does not always prevail.

Part 4

Don't you just love how the final cut looks like? Its richness in vintage graininess with sub par audio quality has made 90s films last longer in my memory. Plus, some of them are just so bad it's good. Have you heard such a phrase? I think  Kanta Serigala fits the description very well. Not a record breaking, but still better than lots of titles released on the Malaysian cinema's nowadays.

Part 5

I noticed that some parts got cut out or censored. This includes the scene where Zarul knocks out Dania with a cloth of chloroform. The murder scene of Constable Halim is also missing, trimming the film short on its overall running time. One thing about Southeast Asian media corporations is that they tend to ignore the fact that people will always be looking for old films the way they were meant to be shown; uncut and uncensored. To make matters worse, media executives do nothing to restore all the classic cult films for public viewing. Whatever it is that comes from the 80s or the 90s, they just leave it like that with no effort to preserve the films deemed culturally significant regardless of popularity. Yes. People from the West or Europe, the cinemas here sucked dick! People only watch the new shits and they don't even appreciate the old ones when in fact, film like Kanta Serigala, Dendam Perawan Bunting and any other old school titles fared better in terms of horror and story telling. Fuck!

Part 6

Zarul reaches the end of the line. Dania learns the truth behind her kidnapping. A boyfriend tries to save the day. Local authority that is all the more efficient at carrying their job. What's not to love? Ha ha

Part 7

There is no going back for Zarul. The final stop is just around the corner. The rain makes for intense suspense. Police is now closing in on the suspect. Nowhere to run. No one to turn to. Zarul's love for Shakira might as well be washed away by the falling rain.

Part 8 / The End

People! What will happen to a bad guy in a movie? Yes. I guess you already know the answer. Dania walks away with the rain still falling, leaving behind whatever secrets that have somehow got her entangled in chaos.  Her boyfriend is left clueless. Concludes now the tale of the grand sorrow. Pitiful villain, innocence with a heart so pure, a family ties now severed and buried, Kanta Serigala calls it a night.

Angelcorpse - (1998) Exterminate [.flac]

Nuff said; this is one of my favorite black death metal albums. It's filled with anger and rage, hatred and violence so vicious you feel like raping the repeat button. Bought together with the debut record, Exterminate is a must have record. You'll die a poseur because when you're still alive, you called yourself a metalhead but didn't have this album in your possession. Buy or die! The choice is yours.

Yopi Burnama - (1988) Bisikan Arwah [Review]

This is one of three films that I've been searching for decades. Released in 1988, Bisikan Arwah is directed by Yopi Burnama and starred Nina Karina, Yoseph Hungan and Biet Burnama. The film is also notable for hiring four known actors from Malaysia such as Mr. Os (real name Mohamad Yusof bin Abdul Hamid), Latif Ibrahim, Hussein Abu Hassan and Puteri Salbiah.

The title card
I don't quite remember the whole story given the fact I watched this film in the early 90s. Quite possibly, it was 22 years ago. Bisikan Arwah (Whisper of the Spirit) tells a story about a man named Parta (Mr. Os) who is considered to be the ugly duckling of his native village. Despite this shortcoming, Parta is trying to unsuccessfully court Eka (Puteri Salbiah), the village most sought after virgin. As a result, he receives constant humiliation by the village inhabitants. Realising that his ugliness became the main source of rejection, Parta plans a vengeful comeback. One night, Parta enters a cave to meet with its mystical guardian, the Serpent Queen. Explaining the reason that brought him to see her, she asked Parta to consume a bowl of worms before herself. Witnessing this, she grants Parta's wishes but not before engaging in ritualistic sex acts with each other. Parta now gains supernatural abilities on a condition that he must not have sex with any other woman, thus forcing him to become involuntary celibate bound by the sacred covenant. He returns from his meditation and begins to carry out exactly what he has planned before. Eventually Eka is successfully courted by Parta and the two soon married to each other. That night, Parta betrays the covenant by having sex with Eka and as a result, he shape shifts into a massive serpentine creature. Eka frantic screams alerted some of the neighbors in the vicinity. They quickly gathered and dragged Parta out of the house, now in human form. He is then beaten to death by the mob of angry villagers. What remains of his dead body is thrown into a cave, presumably the same cave that he goes to when meeting the Serpent Queen.

The iconic fighting scene. Now reincarnated Parta knows some martial arts
So fast forward to present days (yeah, those times), Iwan (Yoseph Hungan) is a snake enthusiast. Seeing one with rather abnormal pattern, he wanted to capture the snake for its skin. Little does he know that the serpent is a reincarnation of vengeful Parta. Immediately Parta absorbs his spirit into Iwan's body and controls him like some sort of shape shifting zombie. This is where all the fun begins. So that is as far as I can remember. Whoever has a physical copy of this film could you please leave a comment and I'll surely reply you. While trolling through the web, I found some images of this film from a forum so I'm just going to borrow them for viewing purposes.

Some really crappy but great fun!

Angelcorpse - (1996) Hammer of Gods [1999 Remastered]

Bought this record about a month ago. Yeah, I know right. This is Angelcorpse debut album released in 1996. Featuring massive wall of guitars and grinding drums, Angelcorpse first effort is worthy of praise. The overall barbarism exemplified through each song truly reflects the band's single minded approach on anti religious matter i.e. they want to kill your faith in God. Enough said. Buy this album if you have not done so. Don't solely rely on downloads alone.

3v4n35c3nc3 - (2011) 3v4n35c3nc3 [Deluxe Edition+DVD Region 0]

They returned last year with an eponymous third album. Some of you kvltists may raise the blades of trve while hell bent on decapitating me for listening to this band. I tell you something; you don't even know me. As poseur as it seems to you, this band right here is perhaps one of the few contemporary mainstream acts that I can count on. Then again, I'm not going to justify my reason for liking 3v4n35c3nc3 (encryption intended). The lead single is somewhat aggro; something that is perhaps new and decent to 3v4n35c3nc3. After I listened the preview of the whole album, I decided to go out and buy the record myself. Of course, the deluxe package with bonus DVD is a must for me. A very decent album with fresh sound on otherwise Goth laden piece. She learns to play harp on this album as well and the new drummer is amazingly energetic he should stay with the band for years to come. Letting him go will be their biggest mistake, trust me. The DVD section contains Behind the Scene, Photo Session, The Making of Music Video, two additional music videos as well as track by track breakdown hosted by 4my 733. So peeps, enjoy this and don't forget to buy the original. It's worth it!

Necrophobic - (1997) Darkside [Hammerheart Reissue]

If you haven't known this band but claimed yourself to be a metalhead, then you had better shoot yourself already. This is not for the weak of heart and surely not for poseurs. A legend by birth, Necrophobic are a band that had long career behind them. Often times their music is somewhat a cross between Dissection and Decameron while drawing heavier elements from both formations. Darkside is somewhat interesting and one of the songs with the title 'Nailing the Holy One' has guest vocal done by late Dissection frontman. At the same time, the song pays homage to their father figure Slayer by borrowing the ever iconic riffs from the song Raining Blood. Surely, this album is a must buy! Fuck poseurs!
